In 1979, Andrew St. George, Richard Rudolph, Tony Blaise andMark Valdez formed a band in St. George’s Toronto basement. Throughan ad in the Toronto Star, they added Simon Slinger as the leadvocalist, and The Start was in business. After a few shows at Lee’sPalace, The Horseshoe, The Edge and Larry’s Hideaway, they werenoticed by Capital Records and offered an album deal. The singletrack Hey You comes from the bands 1980 debut album. It was usedfrequently as one of the theme songs in The All Night Show withChuck the Security Guard in Toronto. Thanks to this the band gotthe change to do concerts with the likes of The Pretenders, TheB52s, Teenage Head and Elvis Costello at Toronto’s outdoorfestival, Heatwave. Unfortunately, the song, the band and The AllNight Show were relatively short-lived, and are now but pleasantmemories of a long-gone era.
