This dvd starts with the a much sought after complete pro shotrecording from Stevie Ray Vaughans concert at Ocean Center, DaytonaBeach, Florida on the 25th of March 1987. This was recorded duringthe bands Live Alive tour and when MTV recorded this show it wasjust 5 months into Stevies sobriety (the wild antics of drugdealers and groupies being present backstage were eliminated forthis tour after they changed their hospitality rider and Vaughanremoved alcohol from his rider). After SRV had come out of therehab he took his life by the scruff of the neck and really decidedto live, act and perform like every day was his last. Every momentwas precious…every song could actually be his last. He had cheateddeath and was going put his heart and soul into everything he did.Consequently, this gig, has Stevie and the boys playing theirhearts out! This show also features a handful of songs that I hadnever seen played on dvd before, namely ‘Lookin’ Out TheWindow’,’Look At Little Sister’, ‘Superstition’ and ‘Willie TheWimp’. Stevie doesn’t play it safe, there is no ‘Texas Flood’,‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’ or indeed ‘Pride & Joy’, but what youdo get is the most amazing performance of ‘Ain’t Gone N Give Up OnLove’ that is done pure ‘Texas Flood’ style. It really has to beseen to believed! As far as i’m concerned, this is up there with‘Live At The El Mocambo’ show as one of the best ever! The picturequality isn’t the best and theres no DTS sound but the tone andplaying is just sublime.

Out next comes material from Stevie Ray Vaughans show at the CBSRecords Convention in Honolulu on the 19th of February 1984 wherehe is joined on stage by Jeff Beck for the encores. Jeff Beck andStevie Ray Vaughan toured together in 1989, but this is five yearsbefore that, when they met and played together for the first timeat this convention for their shared label, CBS Records. In aninterview shortly before the 1989 tour, Beck laughing told MTV, “Iremember trying to contact Stevie to rehearse and he said ‘Oh, yourehearse do you? What the hell do you wanna rehearse for?’ ” In anexcerpt from Stevie Ray Vaughan Day By Day, Night After Night HisFinal Years, 1983 – 1990, Stevie recalls, “…we rehearsed a coupleof times and smoked cigarettes and went crazy and then went andplayed and just had a blast! [Beck] did this solo in Hawaii thatnight that was unbelievable. It actually took me watching it onvideotape for about a month to really grasp what he played. Andwhether he’s pulling our leg and he really knows what he’s doingbefore he does it, I don’t know. It doesn’t really matter. But hefinished this solo and got this big grin on his face and stuck hishand in his pocket and stood there for a while like, ‘You can putthat one in the bank.’ It was amazing.” The video has been outthere for awhile, but even if you’ve seen it before, you can’t seethis performance of “Jeff’s Boogie” too many times. And if this isyour first time seeing it, your day is about to get better.
