Shouhonyama Tomae Asagi - awasedo, finishing whetstone

A hard stone with strong abrasive properties, resulting in a good finish. Nice skin (kawa) on the back side (image 2) and a bit on the sides (images 5&6)

It is a good stone with no inclusions or defects. There is a superficial crack in one corner (last image), but it's not felt under the blade and has no negative impact whatsoever - it goes about 2mm deep and goes parallel to the surface so in time with lapping it will be gone (check 3rd image lower left corner)

The stone is lapped, chamfered and sealed - ready for use

Has been used with nagura progression, water only, diamond plate slurry (image 8 shows the slurry) and performs great
