Vintage bronze brooch Kalevankarhu, designed by Kaisaleena Mäkelä for Kalevala Koru in 1999.

The brooch is shaped like a stylized bear, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and protection. Its form is simple yet expressive, featuring a rounded, compact body and a slightly arched back. The bear’s head is gently defined, with a minimalistic snout and small circular eyes. The surface is adorned with fine engraved lines that mimic fur, adding texture and depth.

One of the most striking details is the elegant swirling patterns on the bear’s legs and body, reminiscent of traditional Scandinavian and Viking-era ornamentation. These spirals may represent natural forces, cycles of life, or spiritual energy.
