Double album on black vinyls with gatefold cover and printedinnersleeve
A Winters Tale is the debut album from the Norwegian symphonicdoom/death band Abyssic, a band that consists of well-knownmusicians from the Norwegian metal scene, from acts such asSusperia, Dimmu Borgir, Old Mans Child, Funeral etc. Its anabsolute monster of an album. At 79 minutes in length and featuringjust four tracks, Abyssic certainly know how to provide thelistener with a lot to get their teeth into. A decent stylisticreference point for Abyssic would initially be the old Peacevilleroster, with bands like Anathema, My Dying Bride and Paradise Lostall providing an idea of what the base of the band is like. Onlylonger and more epic, of course. Once you have this in your mind´seye, mix in some more modern, epic funeral Doom from the likes ofMonolithe, as well as a sterling Classical influence, and you´llhave a good idea of what Abyssic are getting up to here. Thesymphonic aspects of Abyssic´s sound are big, bold and unashamedlyimpressive. Abyssic don´t hold back, and nor should they. This is aband that manage to incorporate the symphonic and Classicalelements into their sound in a holistic and complete way, ratherthan having them just added on at the end. The music easily takeson a cinematic legendary feel and each of these long songs feelslike a story. Nay, a saga.
