Ironflame is a traditional heavy/power metal entity born ofmulti-instrumentalist Andrew D’Cagna. Although the music ofIronflame finally came to life in late-2016, it’s growth intofruition had been decades in the making. Andrew grew up in thelate-80s/early-90s listening to classic metal acts like IronMaiden, Savatage, Helloween, and Judas Priest. He was also luckyenough to have been blessed with a singing voice that lent itselfwell to the genre. Despite Andrew’s given ability, however, herarely used it-instead becoming influenced by more extreme realmsof metal and pursuing such musical interests for 15 years, playingvarious instruments in death and black metal bands. Andrew was thenrecruited by renowned guitarist Jim Dofka as vocalist for the bandDofka, where he honed his raw vocal talent and learned how to singproperly through 2010, performing on the Humanity Bleak album.Years later, upon the untimely death of a mutual friend, Dofkareunited for a one-night performance in October of 2016. Theseevents stirred up many old feelings, and Andrew felt it was time towrite an album of purely traditional metal. Thus, Ironflame wasborn. The end result is Lightning Strikes The Crown, a 40-minutetribute to the glory days of heavy metal. Free of pretension andarrogance, the music of Ironflame is catchy, familiar, andhook-laden-just good old fist-banging metal that is as honest as itis memorable. All of the instruments and vocals wereperformed/recorded by Andrew himself, with the exception of ahandful of local guitar buddies recruited for solos-Jim Dofka amongthem. Ironflame has since grown into an active live band with JimDofka (guitar) and James Babcock (bass) from Dofka joining thefray, as well as Quinn Lukas (guitar) from Icarus Witch and ToddGuerrieri (drums) from This Tortured Soul. Though still in it’sinfancy, Ironflame has already had the opportunity to share thestage with such heavyweights as Cerebus, Armored Saint, and thelegendary Diamond Head. The band will continue to grow andestablish itself as a true heavy metal force to be reckonedwith.
