Battuto series was designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini in 1930s-1940s. In their presentation Battuto pieces depend on sculptural effect of the external shape and tactile and texture values of the surfaces, with tendency toward asymmetricality, while limited to just one or two colors. The vase is done in ombre green to blue glass with characteristic texture of tiny dents of varying depth, arranged at random, producing an imitation of hammering technique common in metalwork.
The vase is not signed, but can be identified and attributed by comparing to examples documented in various printed sources and online auctions, as well as Soffiati O Pesanti section of Catalogo blu; while referencing the official catalogues and other sources for hand blown glass, it is important to remember that each handmade glass object is unique and there will be slight variations between pieces created based on the same drawing or designed shape.
Reference:
Venine Catalogue Raisonne 1921-1986, Anna Venini Diaz de Santillana
Italian Glass Murano Milan 1930-1970, Helmut Ricke and Eva Schmitt
Historical Catalogues: Catalogo blu
