This book has a fantastic mix of things included, such as written historical accounts from sailors, paintings and drawings of ships and sailors in various art styles, poems about sailing, and even a few song lyrics and notes. There are also very informative resources in the back of the book, like a glossary of nautical terms and detailed diagrams of a tall ship.

I especially enjoyed images of real art work by listed artists accompanied by prose and poetry. I love to just pick it up and open it at random. Every page is filled with a story or a poem that gives the reader a window into the life of a sailor, a time gone by, or a place where I might want to go. The artwork is priceless because each piece is drawn from some wonderful collection that might not ever have been shared unless someone wrote this book.

The ink drawings, paintings, poetry and prose are all among the best ever produced and I have used this volume for the last few decades as a resource in my writing and artwork.
