The US Festival was held over two weekends in 1982 and 1983.Steve Wozniak, cofounder of Apple Computer, funded the concerts andaccompanying technology exposition, as well as the construction ofa brand-new outdoor venue in Glen Helen Regional Park in SanBernardino, CA. Nearly every musical genre was represented by bandsas diverse as U2, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Ozzy Osbourne, WaylonJennings, Van Halen, The Police and The Clash. Over the combinedseven days of the festival, more than one million people passedthrough the entrance gates. May 29, 1983, was ‘Heavy Metal Day’ atthe US Festival, and the stellar line-up of bands included amongstothers Triumph, who were touring their most recent release at thetime, the fine “Never Surrender.” These 8 live tracks are simplystunning, in front of supposedly 4 to 500,000 people. The sheerpower of the band on stage performing some really rocking tunes andthe beautiful guitar work by Rik Emmett (not to discount how tightthese guys were as musicians as well). Check out Rik Emmett’s “miccontrol” near the end of Magic Power, it might bring you goosebumps. That special day at the US Festival we see a band that wereat their definite prime and at the height of their creative powers.If you are a fan of Triumph, you should get this. If you happenedto be one of those 500,000 people that were there that day, thismakes a great souvenir.
