Two shows with the Beatles. First outis the show from Shea Stadium in Atlanta on the 18th of August1965. This was The Beatles only visit to Atlanta and it lastedaround 10 hours, but was remarkable for one key reason: monitorspeakers on the stage allowed them to hear themselves play – ararity during the whirlwind of Beatlemania. 18 August was a hotday, and as there was no air conditioning in the stadium PaulMcCartney requested a large fan for the backstage area, although itmade little difference. Atlanta Stadium – later renamed theAtlanta-Fulton County Stadium – had only been recently opened.Tickets for the show had gone on sale two months earlier, withfield level seats costing $5.50 and upper level ones $4.50. Fanshad begun arriving at the stadium from 4.30am on the morning of theshow. The second show is from the Empire Stadium in Vancouver onSaturday the 22nd of August 1964. This was Beatles first everCanadian show and it took place in front of 20,261 fans at theEmpire Stadium. The show began at 8.15 pm and The Beatles took tothe stage at 9.25 pm. The support acts were, in order ofappearance, The Bill Black Combo, the Exciters, The RighteousBrothers, and Jackie DeShannon. The Beatles performed an 11-songset, for some reason choosing not to play I Want To Hold Your Hand.The group’s performance was broadcast live by local radio stationCKNW. After their performance they ran from the stage to theirwaiting limousine and were driven from the stadium, accompanied bymotorcycle outriders, less than a minute after they stoppedplaying. The Beatles were taken straight to Vancouver InternationalAirport, from where they flew straight to Los Angeles.
